    ali/shavers revisited

seeing the fight in bits and pieces, ali seemed to be taking a beating.
did everybody else have ali winning that fight , or some of you scored it for shavers?
It's funny how nobody brings up Ali's win against Shavers amongst his other notible wins over foreman, frazier, norton, and liston, patterson when he was a destructive elite fighter himself..

Well seeing the whole fight, Ali clearly won in my eyes, and came close to KO'ing Earnie in the last minute.

Shavers had his moments though, a guy with his punch against a slow Ali obviously makes for some tough shots.

I remember reading how Ali was a little nervous the day before the Shavers fight. He recently did an ad campaign for some ****roach traps, and a couple of his entourage saw the ads on tv and they could barely understand what he was saying. Clearing he was in the early stages of parkinsons. Ali knew somthing was wrong and he knew that the next day Shavers was going to be raining his usual heavy bombs onto his head.

Good fight though, especially the last round. Shavers wasn't a great fighter compared to the other 1970's champs but he was a great contender and most notably, a great puncher.

I had Ali winning, but he was seriously hurt a few times in this fight, he showed a lot of his experience in surviving those moments and even had Shavers hurt towards the end of the 15th.

Ali said something along the lines of "He hit me so hard in the second round, I fought the whole fight like I was in a haze."

I tried to give Ali the benefit of the doubt at times, but no way could I give him 8 rounds.

Ali was shot by 1977 and showed an amazing chin, but I think he lost this one.

Totally disagree Ali for certain lost this fight IMO, he was getting rocked by right hands all night long, his jab was also very ineffective and nothing more than a flicking jab. He would try and steal rounds by flurrying but i didn't fool for it, i like Ali and i was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but i just couldn't. Ali clearly lost IMO Shavers landed the harder shots and was working the entire 3 minutes of the round, even if mostly he was just hitting Ali's arms he still was working the entire round and he still would get through Ali's defense.
