    How good was Tucan McGinty?

Was he better than Willie Pep? Or at least close? Or is he the subject of mere legend?

It's the guy named Johnny McGinty right? If so I know who he is but as far as making an educated opinion I couldn't. Isn't he the one that went against the grain and fought alot of black fighters when it was a no-no to do so?

Anyways, I have a book at home that has a section on him. It's been years since I've read it tho'. I'll make sure and take a look at it and brush up.

It pisses me off that people miss Tucan out - ISTR they don't have his full stats on boxrec.

Just one of those fighters it's trendy not to like, but a damn good one all the same.

Are there any books you would recommend that prominently feature him? I have one that has a piece on him, but it's not very big from what I can remember.

I'm sure I have some stuff on him in some of the older magazines I have as well, but it'll take some time for me to go thru them and see.

Cheers man, it's good to see a new poster who knows his history.

Yeah Johnny McGinty never turned down a scrap for any reason, race among them. He fought all the best little men of his day, all the black ones mostly in non-sanctioned bouts.

There's no more controversial fighter than Tucan.
