I was wondering if anyone knew of the reason that Thomas Hearns vs. Mike McCallum never came off. I was thumbing thru one of my old Ring ****zines from 1987 and it talked about the highly anticipated match. I never heard anything else regarding it.

After McCallum beat Curry it was said many times that McCallum/Hearns was close at hand.

Was it financial or something else that made this fight collapse?

McCallum was too good. Horrible style matchup for Tommy.

Hearns was avoiding McCallum at 154. the hitman just wants to make history winning 4 titles in 4 weight divisions by taking on paper champs Dennis andries and juan roldan in 1987.

maccallum was too slow IMO and he would get knocked out in this fight, i dont see him getting close enough to hit hearns body THAT much

I just always assumed it was financial since Tommy said repeatedly said, "I'll fight anyone if the dollars are right." But you guys may have something with the style match-up/4th title belt.

It's a shame tho'...Body Snatcher vs. Hitman would have been a classic!
