Former WBA and WBO super middleweight and middleweight champion Felix Sturm, fresh out of jail where he was locked up due to tax evasion, will return to the ring December 19 in Hamburg with the "new" Universum as promoter, writes BILD.

The 41-year old Sturm (40-5-3) was last seen in the ring early 2016 and looked over the hill as he beat Fedor Chudinov in a rematch. Later that year the troubles (there were troubles before that as well) started and Sturm was for a long time in custody and was charged with tax fraud, tax evasion and for a while the charges also included doping.

Sturm was eventually freed of some of the charges and a deal was struck with the authorities.

Sturm has now served his sentence and is back December 19 against an opponent to be announced.

Felix turned pro with the "old" Universum back in 2001 and won the WBO 160 lb title in 2003, which led to a fight against Oscar De La Hoya in Las Vegas in 2004.

Sturm lost a close decision and many felt he had won but it must be said it was De La Hoya who "stole" the show by showing up faded and out of shape. Still, Sturm became a big star and was in the limelight for a number of years.

However, in 2009 Felix broke out of Universum and formed Sturm Box Promotion. He did well for a few years but in 2012 it started going downhill on all fronts with dubious decisions, doping tests and apparently tax evasions as well.

Talks of a showdown against another former golden boy in Germany, Arthur Abraham, has lingered for years and now it might happen.

Heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua has employed both Germans Peter Kadiru from the SES stable in Germany, as well as big Christian Thun from Universum, as sparring partners as he prepares for the fight against Kubrat Pulev on December 12. As for Thun he prepares for a fight on Universum's gym show on November 14 where he takes on Brit Danny Whitaker.

Hungarian New School Promotion returns December 11 in Budapest with a show headlined by super welter Balazs Bacskai (13-0). New School staged their first show in September and have some decent fighters in the team.

EBU super lightweight champ Sandor Martin (36-2) has signed with Matchroom and Opi Since 82 and the goal is a world title fight. Martin has a mandatory defence against Dane Enock Poulsen coming up in Denmark but due to the Covid-19 pandemic no date has been announced. Martin last fought in December of last year when he beat Brit Joe Hughes.
