The post-title run for Julio Cesar Miranda continues to disappoint. The latest setback in the career of the former flyweight titlist came Saturday evening in Mexico City when the 32-year old suffered a 10th round knockout at the hands of countryman Felipe Orucuta.

Orucuta boxed like a master, outhustling the veteran early on and dazzling his foe with speed and fleet foot movement. As Miranda began to wear down from chasing his opponent all evening, Orucuta brought the heat.

The beginning of the end came in the final round when Miranda - exhausted and near-defenseless - found himself under siege as Orucuta turned up the attack. A flurry in the corner had the veteran in deep trouble before referee Gelasio Perez came to his rescue.

The official time was 1:08 of the 10th and final round.

Orucuta improves to 25-1 (21KO) with arguably the biggest win of his career. While the bout was just a ten-rounder and not a sanctioned eliminator, it's not out of the realm of possibility to envision Orucuta in a title shot in the very near future.

Meanwhile, Miranda begins to creep towards the twilight of his career. The loss is his second straight in falling to 37-8-1 (29KO). The bout marked just the second stoppage loss of Miranda's career, with the previous encounter coming eight years ago.

In undercard action, Fernando "Chihuas" Rodriguez barely held on to his unbeaten record in scoring a split decision over Francisco "Marro" Perez in their eight-round affair.

Scores were 77-75 (twice) in favor of Rodriguez and 77-75 Perez.

Both bouts aired live on TV Azteca.
