The series finale of ESPN2 Friday Night Fights is capped by the final edition of Boxcino tournament action in the heavyweight and junior middleweight division.
In the land of the big boys, Andrey Fedosov and Donovan Dennis will throw down to see who will be the last heavyweight standing in the main event at Omega Products International in Corona, California. Between the two finalists, there exits just 10 combined rounds of ring action.
Fedosov (27-2, 22KOs) stormed into the finals, needing just 10 minutes of ring time to establish his presence as the odds-on favorite. The Russian brawler—now fighting out of Hollywood, Calif.—opened the tournament with a 1st round knockout of Nat Heaven in the February quarterfinals. Two months later, it was Lenroy Thomas’ turn to get it, with Fedosov stopping the Jamaican heavyweight in less than three rounds.
Overall, Fedosov has scored three straight knockouts following a stoppage loss to then-unbeaten prospect Bryant Jennings in June ’13.
Dennis (12-1, 10KOs) is also riding a three-fight win streak, though with far less polish surrounding his career. The hulking southpaw from Davenport, Iowa bumped off unbeaten comebacking heavyweight Steve Vukosa in the quarterfinals, forcing the 38-year old to quit in the fourth round of their meet in February.
The trip to the finals was earned after lighting up Razvan Cojanu in just under four minutes this past April.
How will things play out in the finals? Read on to see how the staff at krikya360.com sees the heavyweight action going down.
krikya360.com STAFF PREDICTIONS: BOXCINO HEAVYWEIGHT FINALS
Ryan Burton (Fedosov TKO5): The better puncher will score a mid round KO.
Jake Donovan (Fedosov TKO3): Pains me to pick against anyone named Donovan, but I just don’t like the way Dennis (or any other heavyweight in Boxcino) matches up versus Fedosov.
Takahiro Onaga (Fedosov TKO5): I think experience going to play key role here and Fedosov has too much for Dennis.
Cliff Rold (Fedosov KO): The better fundamentals and better chin of Fedosov overcome the speed and explosiveness of Dennis.
Victor Salazar (Fedosov KO): It should be entertaining and it should end in the knockout. I like Fedosov, was my pick going in for Boxcino so sticking with him by knockout.
Reynaldo Sanchez (Fedosov mid-rds TKO): Hard fights for both, Fedosov is a hardest puncher and have a win over Nat heaven that beat Dennis by KO in one. Fedosov by TKO in the middle rounds.
Alexey Sukachev (Fedosov TKO5): Fedosov is a good gatekeeper/fringe contender, specifically for modern days. And he is durable - something that cannot be said about Dennis. Fedosov should definitely prevail.
