Cuban super middleweight contender Osleys Iglesias (8-0) outclassed Andrii Velikovsky (21-3-2) in Gliwice, Poland. Finally, it was stopped in the tenth round with Velikovsky trailing 90-81 on the three scorecards.

The vacant IBO title was at stake.

French paper L'Equipe reports the death of former French and EU champ Christophe Canclaux at the age of 46. Cause of death appears to be suicide.

Canclaux was very good as amateur and big things were expected of him as a pro. However, he never seemed to adjust well to the pros and lacked punching power. He still won the French super welterweight title and the EU belt twice. He was promoted by Sauerland Event for a few years.

He fought professionally from 1998 through 2011 with a record of 42-5.

Turning pro and adjusting to that can be tough even for the best of the amateur fighters. But getting back into the amateurs and adjusting to a different kind of boxing can also be tough - and the last boxer to find that out was light heavyweight Hampus Henriksson (5-0-1), who lost a close decision to Liridon Nuha in the opening night of the Swedish championships.

IN OTHER NEWS: Joey Canoy (W19 L5 KO11) captured the OPBF light flyweight belt in Osaka, Japan as he brutally stopped Kenichi Horikawa in the seventh round.

Horikawa was the bigger fighter and pressured Canoy from the get go. However, Canoy kept on making his presence felt by hitting the Japanese foe with accurate powershots to the body and head. Canoy’s counterpunching was effect and were taking their toll as the rounds passed. 

It was in the fateful seventh round where Horikawa was cornered and battered with a barrage of combinations. Later in the round, a perfect uppercut to the head caught Horikawa sending him to the canvas unconscious. The referee did not bother to count and waved off his hands thus awarding the victory to the road warrior Canoy.
