Dina Thorslund’s mandatory defense of the WBC bantamweight title against Seren Cetin will now go ahead May 25 at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Thorslund (21-0) vs Cetin (11-0) was all set to take place at the same venue on February 24, but Cetin arrived in Denmark with a fresh cut and the fight was cancelled at a short notice. However, promoter Bettina Palle was able to save the show when Mary Romero, from Spain, agreed to step in and was stopped in the eighth by Thorslund.

Italian Ernesto Bergamasco has passed away at the age of 74. Bergamasco won the national title in 1971 and represented Italy in the 1972 Olympics in Munich where he lost in the first round. He turned pro and went 19-0 in his first two years before losing to Bruno Freschi in a fight for the Italian super lightweight title. After that he mixed it in good company and went 12-9 before retiring in 1978. Bergamasco was later the founder of Pugilista Oplonti, a club that has produced a number of good amateurs and pros.

The Swedish Boxing Commission has filed an official protest to the Danish Federation in regards to the handling of the fight March 9 in Copenhagen between heavyweights Kem Ljungquist and Marios Kollias, which was won by Ljungquist on a majority decision after 10 tough rounds. The protest takes up the excessive holding that Ljungquist got away with and also the scoring of the fight, which the Dane won with a wide decision on two scorecards by 98-92. The third judge had it 95-95.
The protest is not likely to go anywhere as there were no formal mistakes made but the SBC obviously wants to make a point and show its support for Kollias and his team in Fight Life Promotion.
