Nicaragua's Jose Alfaro, a former WBA world champion at 135 pounds, will land in Mexico City on Monday to train at the Otomi Centre with former three division world champion Erik "El Terrible" Morales. They will be sparring with each other and training for their upcoming fights. Morales actually fought and won a decision over Alfaro last year in Monterrey. Now the the men who traded punches have become allies and plan to help each other achieve the best possible conditions in camp.
Alfaro returns on September 3 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa against former three division champion Humberto "Zorrita" Soto, while Morales hits the ring on September 17th in Las Vegas against Argentina's Lucas Matthysse for the vacant WBC 140-pound title.
The news of this partnership won't be pleasing for Soto, who already has some anger over Morales being presented with the opportunity to fight for the vacant WBC title at 140. Soto vacated his WBC title at 135 and moved up in weight with the expectation of landing a title opportunity. He feels Morales, who returns from an April loss to Marcos Maidana, has not earned the opportunity.
