Atlantic City - In a lightweight clash, Edwin De Los Santos (16-1, 14 KOs) dominated Joseph Adorno (17-3-2, 14 KOs) over ten rounds to secure a wide unanimous decision win.
The scores were 100-90, 100-90 and 99-91.
De Los Santos used an accurate jab, movement and heavy power punches to control the contest from start to finish.
Adorno told his corner in the early rounds that De Los Santos had heavy hands.
He was unable to connect with much of anything, as De Los Santos showed off his defensive skills and boxing ability throughout the contest.
De Los Santos felt Adorno did whatever he could to avoid the possibility of getting knocked out.
“Adorno came to basically survive in this fight. We came prepared to show our boxing skills in this fight tonight," De Los Santos.
“I can’t tell you all the tricks we did in training. But we did a lot of hills, climbing, swimming, a lot of boxing, sparring. Again, I don’t want to reveal all of the secrets but that’s some of what was done for this fight.
“I have the potential to be more disciplined and to do more boxing and wait for the big names. I have to just talk to my promoter (about what’s next). But I don’t care. Anyone at 135 I’ll take care of.”
For his part, Adorno gave praise to De Los Santos, but also said the weight cut was a bit too much for his body.
"The strategy was to box him, but he's a southpaw and he was hard to figure out. He's the best southpaw I've faced. He was well-prepared and knew how to manage the ring," Adorno said.
"Moving down in weight did play into my performance a little, but I really don't want to make any excuses. I shouldn't have taken this fight right away, I should have fought at 137-pounds first. It is what it is though, he was the better man. He did his job."
