According to Vladimir Hryunov, his newly signed heavyweight protégé Alexander “The Great” Ustinov (30-1, 21 KOs) is being viewed as the next opponent for comebacking perennial contender Eddie Chambers (41-4, 22 KOs). Ustinov vs. Chambers can take place on February 28 at O2 Arena in London, England, under Frank Warren’s promotion. The offer for this fight has already been received by Team Ustinov, says BoxKo.ru.
If happens, the fight will serve as one of the undercard bouts in a huge night of boxing co-headlined by Tyson Fury (who takes on Romanian Christian Hammer) and local flamboyant prospect Chris Eubank Jr. The latter is scheduled to challenge hard-nosed Russian middleweight (and WBA interim 160lb holder) Dmitry Chudinov, who is also promoted by Hryunov.
After two back-to-back losses to Tomasz Adamek in June 2012 and to Thabiso Mchunu in August 2013, one of former US heavyweight hopefuls came back in 2014 with five wins (four inside the distance) against very limited opposition. Ustinov, who missed a year after his road win over David Tua, got back to the ring on Dec. 11 against Chauncy Welliver, whom he has easily outpointed over eight.
