In what should be a red-hot encounter, unbeaten northwest prospects Ryan Doyle and John Quigley will battle for the vacant English featherweight title on September 27, with Manchester's Doyle delighted to be fighting in his Scouse rival's backyard.

On a VIP Promotions show at Liverpool's Olympia, the pair will go head to head in a highly-anticipated encounter with 'Ruthless' Ryan insisting he will live up to his moniker and derail Quigley's career in front of the home fans.

"I've got no problem with going there.  I'll thrive off it," stated puncher Doyle, who has five KOs from his nine wins.

"I know I'm the underdog for this fight, but I don't mind going to his home town to fight him.  It's no pressure on me, I think there's more on him and I just can't wait for this fight.

"It's going to be really entertaining, it's a great clash of styles.  John's a counter-puncher and I'm a come-forward fighter, and it's going to be a great night for the fans.  Hopefully my power will come into play because I know I'm very heavy-handed for the weight."

With 13 victories under his belt, including a stint fighting in America, Quigley will enter the contest as the more experienced man.  Doyle though knows becoming English champion will launchpad his career and says he will leave the Olympia with northwest bragging rights intact.

“From what I've seen of John, I know he's a classy fighter,” explained Ryan.  “He was a well-schooled amateur, and what he does he does very well.  He's definitely my toughest fight to date, but I also think I'm the best opponent that John's fought.  So I think it's a real 50-50 fight.

“Winning the English will be massive.  I've been waiting for the opportunity for a while, and it's now here.  The English is a great springboard and moves you onto British and Commonwealth shots.  So winning it will be massive for me.

“I'm confident I can do the job and do the business on the night.  I wouldn't have taken the fight if I didn’t believe I could beat John, and vice versa for John.  But I’m confident I'll be victorious.”

“I think this fight has the potential to be one of the best in Liverpool for a long time,” said promoter Steve Wood.  “These two lads are a couple of the best young fighters in the UK, and we’ll see on the night who has the edge.

“Ryan looks to be the bigger puncher, but John is very skilful and it will be a really exciting contest.  It also has the added spice of being a Liverpool versus Manchester contest and the atmosphere in the Olympia will be absolutely electric.”
