Tom Doran is set to return to the ring in the autumn.

The Connahs Quay middleweight has been out of the ring since losing in a British title challenge against Chris Eubank Jr. in June but has now been given his next fight date.

Doran, who was involved in something of a Fight of the Year candidate in Liverpool against Luke Keeler in April, will box in the city again after being handed his latest opportunity.

He will come back in the hope of adding to his 17-1 (7 KOs) record on October 7 at Greenbank Sports Academy, as part of the first show being staged by MGM Liverpool.

The Dave Coldwell-managed man, 29, is planning on re-establishing himself as a title contender by getting back on the horse when he returns.

And Brandon Daord (1-0) has also been confirmed to be fighting on the show.

Daord, 19, made a successful start to his professional career in June, which followed on from a glittering amateur stint, as he outpointed the game Sergey Tasimov in Preston, winning all four rounds and taking the fight on the referee John Latham’s scorecard by a margin of 40 points to 36.

Meanwhile, MGM Scotland have announced the signing of Marco McCullough.

The former European featherweight title challenger has signed a managerial deal with the Glasgow-based arm of the boxing powerhouse after previously being looked after by Barry McGuigan and Cyclone Promotions.

Belfast man McCullough’s last outing was an eight-round stoppage defeat at the hands of Isaac Lowe in February, with the vacant Commonwealth title at stake, at the Manchester Arena, as part of the big Carl Frampton vs. Scott Quigg pay-per-view show, which was live on Sky Sports Box Office.

And now, after a break from the sport, the 26-year-old (14-3, 9 KOs) has joined MGM in the hope of quickly getting back into title contention, with his first appearance under the banner set for September 15 in Glasgow where he will box over six rounds.

“Marco has been over doing some training at the MGM Scotland gym,” the group’s managing director Sam Kynoch revealed, “and he has a real desire to win a major title.

“He is more than capable of doing so and with MGM behind him I believe that he will achieve his goal.

“His bout in September is about getting him active again, before we then look to get him back into the mix at the top end of the featherweight division.”
