Ocean Resort Casino, Atlantic City - In a middleweight bout, prospect D'Mitrius Ballard (20-0-2, 13 KOs) and Elias Espadas (18-4-1) fought to a three round no-decision due to an accidental head clash.
There was plenty of blood by the second round, after a clash of heads opened up a cut around the left eye of Espadas. The blood was pouring from the cut, but it wasn't flowing into the eye of Espadas.
Fear of the fight being stopped early made Espadas going for broke to trade punches with Ballard. In the third round, the fight was stopped after the ringside physician took a look at Espadas' cut and deemed that it was too serious to allow the fight to continue any longer.
Welterweight contender Eddie Gomez (23-3, 13 KOs) wiped out Saul Corral (30-14) in the second round.
With his use of hard shots to the body, Gomez dropped Corral four times to secure the stoppage.
It was Gomez's third straight win.
Franchon Crews Dezurn (5-1, 2 KO), who is her last fight won the vacant WBC super middleweight title, stopped Kayla Williams (0-3-1) in the fifth round.
Dezurn landed a lot of punches on Williams, who was coming in without a win on her record. The referee had seen enough and finally decided to stop it in the fifth.
Dezurn recently signed a promotional deal with Golden Boy.
Gabriel Pham (11-1) shocked previously undefeated super middleweight prospect Jaba Khositashvili (4-1, 2 KOs).
In the first round, Jaba suffered a flash knockdown when he walked in. At that point he became very wild, often running in to land shots - but he had a lot of trouble getting to Pham, who was much taller and longer.
The scores were 59-54, 59-54, 60-53.
Junior welterweight contender Mike Reed (24-2, 13 KOs) continues to rebuild after suffering back to back defeats, by winning an eight round unanimous decision over Angel Hernandez (15-14-2).
Reed was outlanding and outworking Hernandez, who did not make things easy by coming forward and making in a rough fight on the inside for the entire contest. Hernandez has never been stopped.
The scores were 78-74, 79-73, 79-73.
Reed knocked out Yardley Cruz in two rounds in April, after suffering back to back defeats to Arnold Barboza and Jose Ramirez.
