Devon Alexander (27-6-1) can’t wait to step in the ring on Saturday night. Standing across the ring from him will be the upset minded Lucas Santamaria (11-2-1). The fight will be part of a Premier Boxing Champions on FOX tripleheader.
The 34-year-old Alexander has been out of the ring over 2 years but says that he feels refreshed. He moved up to the welterweight division in 2012 and said that he still doesn’t have trouble making the weight.
“I feel damn good. You already know cutting is the worst part of boxing,” Alexander said with a laugh. “But it hasn’t been bad. I still make it easy. I’m about to have fun in the ring.”
Much has been made of the fact that Alexander has gone 1-4-1 in his last 6 fights but he insists that this time will be different.
He knows this fight is do or die for him and expects to out on a dominant performance.
His past issues with prescription drug addiction have been well documented but with those problems in the past he believes that he is still close to his peak.
“I’m just in a different place and I’m happy. That is the most important thing. When I’m happy then I’m at my best mentally and physically,” Alexander told krikya360.com.
There were also recent talks of a potential southpaw showdown pitting Alexander and former multi-division champion Robert Guerrero against each other.
Guerrero returns to the ring on August 21st against Victor Ortiz. If Guerrero emerges victorious, Alexander would like to face him next.
“I definitely want Guerrero for sure. Let’s get through these fights then we can talk about that fight,” said Alexander.
