David “Rey” Picasso boxed with technique, with strategy and with ample resources, offensive and defensive, to achieve a well-worked victory by technical knockout in the seventh round, over Peruvian opponent César Ignacio Paredes, who at times was complicated for the Mexican boxer with his left-handed guard and his insistent attack to the body.
Their bout headlined a card that Zanfer presented at the Zonkeys Auditorium in Tijuana.
Picasso (20-0-1, 9 KO's) was patient and practical, but as the rounds went by his dominance became clearer and his punches came with increasing frequency and solidity.
Paredes (15-4-1, 5 KO's) came forward, moved around the ring well and at times was surprising with his long body shots. In the sixth round, Picasso hurt Paredes twice, once with an uppercut to the face, and on another occasion with a combination to the body and head, which made "Zurdo" begin to breathe through his mouth and decreased his mobility and speed.
Upon returning to his corner, the Peruvian felt that his resistance and strength was diminished, and they decided not to come out to fight for the seventh round, decreeing the technical knockout in favor of Picasso.
In the co-feature, Omar “Super” Salcido brought out his punching power, his offensive variety and his “killer instinct”, to achieve a brilliant victory by TKO in the fourth round, against a brave and very solid Josué “Violento” Estrada, who offered very good resistance.
Salcido (16-0, 11 KO's) came forward and landed power shots with both hands. Despite his greater reach, he excelled in close quarters. Estrada (6-1, 3 KO's) came out to fight toe-to-toe, exchanging blows, but his defense was very vulnerable.
A powerful combination to the face sent Estrada to the canvas in the third round. Salcido went to finish him off and although he landed power shots, his rival was able to finish the round standing.
However, it was a matter of time, and in the fourth round, after a powerful combination to the face that pushed Estrada back, the referee determined that it was enough punishment, and stopped the fight.
