LAS VEGAS – Damien Vazquez, 17-3-1 (10 KOs), is counting down the days until he steps in the ring with Mexico’s David Picasso, 27-0-1 (15 KOs).

The fight takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 4 on the Canelo Alvarez-Jaime Munguia undercard that is being streamed by Amazon Prime and presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

Vazquez is looking to win his third fight in a row after losing back-to-back fights to Rau’shee Warren and Brandon Figueroa. Picasso has won 22 fights in a row since settling for a draw in his fifth professional fight.

The Las Vegas-based southpaw Vazquez has sparred several rounds with Figueroa to help prepare him for Picasso. Figueroa also is fighting on the card, against former world champion Jessie Magdaleno.

“I am more focused and more tuned in than ever before,” Vazquez told BoxingScene. “The results have shown in the camp.  I have put in lots of rounds with Brandon Figueroa who is a great fighter and we have given each other really good work throughout this camp. A lot of people are going to be surprised on May 4th.”

Vazquez took some time off after the losses and believes that he has found his man strength as he enters his mid twenties.  He feels stronger than at any point in his career and is confident that the undefeated Picasso is in for a big surprise.

“It is time to show everyone all of the experience that I have gained and how I have matured physically.  I feel stronger than ever before and it will show when I get in the ring.  Picasso is undefeated but he has never fought anyone like me. Look at his resume. I am on a whole different level than all of his previous opponents,” Vazquez stated.

As for the main event, Vazquez cannot pick a winner.  Canelo comes into the fight as the favorite but Vazquez believes it is a fight that can go either way.

“This is boxing so anything can happen. One punch can change everything. I think it is a good close fight and to me it is 50-50.  Canelo and Munguia can both win the fight,” said Vazquez.
