Former champion Anthony Crolla was a 100-1 underdog when he stepped in the ring with Vasiliy Lomachenko in April of 2019.

Crolla was dominated and brutally knocked out.

On Saturday night, Lomachenko will collided with undefeated Teofimo Lopez for the IBF, WBC Franchise, WBA, WBO lightweight titles.

Lopez, an undefeated power puncher, is also the underdog - but not by much and there are some observers who pick him to win. Lopez is regarded by many as the most dangerous opponent, to date, of Lomachenko's career.

Lomachenko, a two-time Olympic gold medal winner and three division champion, has a big edge in experience.

“I think Lopez has got to use educated pressure,” Crolla said to INews.

“He is the bigger guy, which Lomachenko is used to, but he’s a world-class puncher and I think he will try to get Lomachenko to engage with him, and if he does and Lopez lands, he’s in with a shout.

“I don’t think that will happen, but you’ve got to give Lopez a chance, because if you’re going to pick anyone in the lightweight division or below, Lopez is the one who you think would give him his best challenge.”

Although Lopez is regarded as the puncher, Crolla also warns that Lomachenko's power should not be underestimated.

“My plan was originally, knowing I was never going to outbox Loma, look to make him fall short a bit and then look to engage with him,” Crolla said.

“But I’m a realist. I’m not going to say that if I had taken the fight to him, it would have been different. I believe I would have had more success – but I might have got caught earlier! I wish I had taken the fight to him and got on his chest a little bit.

“His power is underrated and he dresses the power up well too. He’ll touch and touch, making you think you’re used to that power, and then he’ll whip in the hard shot.”
