Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas - WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) felt Kenny Porter, father and head trainer of two-time champion Shawn Porter (31-4-1, 17 KOs), did the right thing in stopping the fight.

In what was a close contest, Crawford exploded with power in the tenth and what ultimately became the final round.

During the tenth, Crawford caught Porter with a heavy shot as he walked in to score the first knockdown of the fight. Porter got up, charged forward to trade punches - and Crawford connected with several more hard punches, which created the second knockdown. Porter got up again, but Kenny Porter got up on the apron and indicated to the referee that he was stopping the fight.

There was some backlash over the Kenny Porter's decision - because in the post-fight interview he claimed that he stopped the fight because his son had underprepared for the match.

Crawford backed the elder Porter's decision.

“I caught him with a good uppercut and then when I caught him with another left hook clean in his face, I saw that he was real hurt and his dad did the right thing by stopping it because I was coming with a vengeance,” Crawford said.

The fight appeared to be a tough task. However, Crawford indicates that he figured his opponent out in the very first round.

“I figured that I had the reach and he had to take chances. He did what he normally does. He tried to maul and push me back but I used my angles and I pushed him back at times as well. Shawn Porter is a slick fighter he was doing some things in there and made me think," Crawford said.

At the post-fight press conference, Porter announced his decision to retire from boxing.
