Manny Flores knocked out Alberto Guevara in the second round of a scheduled 10-round junior featherweight fight Thursday at Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino in Indio, California.
Guevara, of Tijuana, Mexico, hit the canvas in the first round, but referee Jack Reiss ruled the fall a slip.
In the second, Flores, 25, a local favorite from Coachella, California, stalked his opponent as blood trickled from Guevara’s nose. A Flores right hook delivered from a southpaw stance floored Guevara (27-7, 12 KOs), who was unable to get to his feet.
The time of stoppage was at 2:31 of Round 2.
The win marks a second straight win for Flores (17-1, 13 KOs) after an upset loss to Walter Santibanes last June at the same Indio venue.
Grant Flores Needs KOs Freddy Espinoza in First Round
Junior middleweight Grant Flores earned an impressive first-round knockout against Freddy Espinoza.
Barely midway through the first round, Flores, 19, of Coachella, countered Espinoza, 24, of Chinandega, Nicaragua, with a left hook to the body. The shot sent Espinoza (10-4, 7 KOs) to the canvas and left him unable to get to his feet well after the fight was called off. The time of stoppage was 1:59 in the first.
Manny and Grant Flores (4-0, 3 KOs) are cousins.
Joshua Garcia Bounces Back From Knockdown to Earn a Split Decision
