Jim Martin, the husband of famed female fighter Christy Martin, was sentenced today to 25 years in prison for trying to kill her, according to Florida television station WKMG.

Martin, 68, was convicted in April on charges of attempted second-degree murder, attempted voluntary manslaughter with a firearm, and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, local radio station WBDO reported at the time.

Jim Martin was accused of stabbing Christy Martin three times and then shooting her in November 2010.

Christy Martin, 44, survived the attack, recovered and returned to the ring in June 2011, losing via sixth-round stoppage to Dakota Stone due to a fractured right hand, according to BoxRec.com. The defeat dropped her record to 49-6-3 with 31 knockouts.

She is scheduled to fight Mia St. John on Aug. 14, a rematch of their 2002 bout, which Martin won by decision. St. John, 45, last fought in 2010 and is 46-11-2 with 18 knockouts.
