When IBF Super bantamweight champion Carl “The Jackal” Frampton takes to the ring against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. at the Don haskins convention Centre, Texas this weekend he will be scrutinised by a living legend.

Julio Cesar Chavez Senior will be there to watch his son, who meets Marcos Reyes on the undercard, but the former Mexican champion will also take a look at the Belfast-born boxer.

"I have good memories of [Frampton's mentor] Barry McGuigan,” said Chavez when speaking to the Belfast Telegraph.

“He was a great champion, he was a true warrior inside the ring.  I have not seen Carl Frampton yet but I have heard a lot about him, a lot of good things—nothing but resounding reviews about Frampton and how good a fighter is.  I'm sure the fans will like him.”

Frampton’s fight will be shown live on terrestrial TV network ITV here in the U.K.; it is the first outing for Frampton since he signed a deal with Al Haymon.  CBS will televise in the U.S.
