Former world champion Ruslan Chagaev is not making any excuses about Saturday's unanimous decision loss to Alexander Povetkin in Germany. With the victory, Povetkin captured the WBA's vacant "regular" title at heavyweight. Chagaev did well in the fight, hurting Povetkin with hard left hands in the sixth and seventh rounds. Chagaev will rest, regroup and then he wants his promoter, Universum, to line up several dates. He wants to stay very active.
"Povetkin picked the right tactics and worked on them 100%. I'm not finished. Yes, in the sixth round Povetkin was hit, but he collected himself and put on a good defense. However, it was my fault. That's life. In life as in sports, you win and lose. Not everything works out the way that you want it to. But we are not going to give up, I need to keep working. I should have more fights, and I hope that my promoter will organize them. I need more practice in the ring to avoid downtime," Chagaev told Alexander Pavlov.
