Up and coming Puerto Rican super flyweight prospect Cesar Seda (20-0) is headed to Argentina on Saturday where he will face WBO super flyweight champion Omar Narvaez (33-0-2) on April 15th in the champion's backyard. The fight will be broadcast on pay per view. krikya360.com caught up with Seda to talk about his first title shot, possibly facing Giovani Segura in the future and more in this exclusive interview.
krikya360.com: Give us your thoughts on your upcoming fight versus Omar Narvaez which will be your first title shot.
Cesar Seda: I am very happy that I am getting the title shot. I want to thank God for giving me this opportunity. I have been waiting for this all of my life and I am going to be ready for whatever Omar Narvaez brings to the table.
krikya360.com: Narvaez is obviously a tough fighter who is undefeated. What do you think will be the key to the fight?
Cesar Seda: I am prepared to win the fight round for round meaning that I will break the fight down and try to win every round one at a time. I think the knockout might come in the 8th round or a little bit after that.
krikya360.com: Your fight will be a clash of youth versus experience. You are 24 years old while Narvaez is 35. How do you plan on using your youth to defeat his advantage in experience?
Cesar Seda: I feel that this is my time. I feel that I am at the peak of my fighting career. I am only 24 years old and I already have 20 pro fights. I feel that my time has come and that Narvaez's time has ended.
krikya360.com: I don't know if you are aware of this but in December Ulises "Archie" Solis of Mexico fought Luis Lazarte on his turf in Argentina. From all accounts Solis won the fight easily but the judges scored the fight a draw. Are you worried about the judges since you will be fighting in Argentina under similar circumstances?
Cesar Seda: That won't be a problem in this fight because I am prepared to win every round in this fight or knock him out. I am sure I will win either way.
krikya360.com: Besides winning the title what types of doors do you think will open up for you with a victory over Narvaez?
Cesar Seda: My work is in the gym. My immediate plan I would say is to unify titles with any of the other champions in the 115 pound weight class but I leave that in the hands of my father who is my manager and Gary Shaw and Javier Bustillo who are my promoters.
krikya360.com: We recently ran a story on krikya360.com in which Ivan Calderon said that he would like to see you face Giovani Segura. Segura as we all know is the only fighter to ever defeat Calderon and last week he won the rematch with Calderon. What do you think of Calderon saying that and what is your opinion of possibly facing Segura?
Cesar Seda: It is an honor for me that a champion like Calderon would say that is a perfect fight for me. I feel that a fight with Segura would be great for me. Segura's defense isn't the best and the difference between me and Calderon is that I am a puncher. I can punch with both hands and Segura would feel my power.
krikya360.com: Do you have a message for the fans?
Cesar Seda: I want to thank all of my loyal fans in Puerto Rico and throughout the world. On April 15th there will be a new champion in Puerto Rico. I want to thank all the fans for sticking with me through the good times and bad.
