Team Sauerland is delighted to announce that Frederikshavn will host the hotly-anticipated showdown between WBA / WBC / WBO Female Welterweight Champion Cecilia Braekhus (20-0, 5 KOs) and Anne Sophie Mathis (26-2, 22 KOs) on September 22 when the Nordic Fight Night returns to Arena Nord. “It´s finally on,” promoter Nisse Sauerland said.

“This will be the biggest fight of Cecilia´s career and we are thrilled to stage it as close to Norway as possible. There will be so many Norwegian fans coming over to support their First Lady in a clash that will surely go down in the history books. There are so many intriguing questions: Who is the best female fighter in the world? Can Cecilia use her superior skills to outbox Mathis? Or will Mathis overpower Cecilia to clinch another spectacular win away from home? We will finally have all the answers on September 22, and I am confident they will all be in Cecilia´s favour.”

Braekhus and Mathis were originally scheduled to fight in March/April. However, problems with her tonsils forced Braekhus to postpone the clash twice. After surgery to have them removed, the First Lady returned in style on June 2, cruising to a clear points victory over highly-ranked contender Jessica Balogun at the Nordic Fight Night in Herning. Mathis remained active as well, battling out the rematch with US superstar Holly Holm. While the first fight ended in a brutal KO victory for Mathis, Holm won the second meeting on points (96-94, 97-93, 99-91).

“Holm did not want to fight, all she did was running away from Mathis,” Braekhus said. “I know for sure that Mathis will be coming to Frederikshavn to fight it out with me and I will be prepared for that. The last result will have made her even more determined and more

dangerous for me.”

Braekhus is glad that the fans will finally get the chance to see this fight. “I would have loved to fight her earlier this year and I am excited that we finally get the chance to meet in the ring,” she added.

“Getting my tonsils removed was a major setback for me, I felt very sorry for all my Norwegian fans who had looked forward to the fight. It´s great that Team Sauerland has arranged the new clash so quickly.”

Mathis is eager to finally get into the ring with Braekhus. “I have a lot of respect for Braekhus, she is undefeated and holds three world titles – but only until September 22,” Mathis said. “Unlike my second duel with Holm, this fight will be a true boxing highlight. It will be competed at the very highest level from both of us. I have got what it takes to dethrone Braekhus in Frederikshavn and I will train hard for my goal to take her three titles back with me to France. The winner may proudly call herself the best female boxer in the world.”
