Cecilia Braekhus (29-0, 8KOs) retained the WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF and IBO female welterweight titles with a second round TKO over Ann-Sophie Mathis (27-4, 23KOs) in the headliner of First Lady Promotion´s show at the Spektrum in Oslo (Norway) tonight. Braekhus had previously won a decision over Mathis in September 2012.

Mathis was at one time among the best in the world but retired after drawing with Oxandia Castillo in February of 2015. She had little left and Braekhus had her against the ropes in the second round and the referee had no choice but to call it off.

This pro-am show - two pro fights and five amateur fights - was the first show in Norway featuring professional boxing in Norway since October of 1980. Braekhus enjoyed her moment in the sun and was cheered on by a crowd of about 9000 including the Prime Ministry of Norway, Britt Solhus.

IN OTHER NEWS - an action-packed bout at the air-conditioned Strike Revilla Gymnasium in Bacoor City, Cavite on Friday, Richard Claveras  won the vacant Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation Silver title with a hard-fought majority decision over previously unbeaten Jeronil Borres of the 3 Jewels Boxing Stable in Cagayan  de Oro City.

Judges Nowel Haduca (77-76) and Fernando Batistil (77-75) scored the fight for Claveras while Greg Ortega had it even at 76-76.

Borres was clearly upset by the decision and felt he had done enough to win but he eased off in the middle rounds and paid the price.

While Borres nailed Claveras with some stinging uppercuts and right straights, Claveras who belongs to the United Boxing Gym in Malate, Manila was the aggressor throughout and never let-up even when he was in trouble.

The work-rate and punching power of Claveras ultimately prevailed in a very close bout that was watched by Bacoor City Mayor Lani Mercado, wife of Senator Bong Revilla.

In the other OPBF Silver title clash former flyweight champion Ardin Diale suffered a nasty gash over is eyebrow after an accidental clash of heads in his bout against previously unbeaten  Ryan Lumacad of the Highland Boxing Gym in La Trinidad, Benguet as the ring doctor ruled him unfit to continue and since the fight ended 36 seconds into the 4th round it was declared a technical draw. Diale who lost his OPBF flyweight title when he suffered a 4th round knockout at the hands of Japan’s hard-hitting Daigo Higa last July 2 appeared to be ahead when the unfortunate accidental head-butt occurred.

The Claveras-Borres title fight will be telecast on “The Main Event” on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. on  Pinoy Box Office (PBO) over  Sky Cable with a replay at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
