The impressive Irish heavyweight Thomas Carty made short work of Pavel Sour in Castlebar, Ireland on Sunday night. He improved his record to 8-0 with a second-round stoppage of the Czech heavyweight in front of a large and vocal following.
The big puncher clinically stopped the fight midway through the second round with two well-timed body shots that left Sour on his back at the impressive TF Royal Theatre.
Afterwards, Carty was delighted with the stoppage – particularly the first shot, which took the wind from the sails of the visiting fighter.
“An upper-cut to the solar-plexus was perfect,” he said, post-fight. “Buddy [McGirt, my trainer] and I worked on it, and it was great to see it come off perfectly. The second knockdown was another excellent punch and it was a good night all-round. Nobody was getting up from that one.
“I want to be back in the ring again in a few weeks because I want to have five fights in 2024 and make my mark on world boxing in 2025. I had a great following here tonight and enjoyed every second of it.”
Carty's win represented his seventh stoppage in a row and he didn't hide his delight.
“There's no party like a Carty-party and the big crowd here tonight loved the stoppage, so we can now look forward to more great nights like this in the future,” he said.
