Tokyo Olympian Caroline Dubois got her professional career to a winning start with a six-round shut-out against Vaida Masiokaite in Cardiff. 

Masiokaite, a 34-year-old Lithuanian, who was having her twentieth successive fight in the UK never threatened to win a round – she lost 60-54 on referee Chris Jones’s card – but she gave a good performance as usual. 

Dubois, who walked to the ring to Sweet Caroline, was much too quick for Masiokaite and a lightning left near the start of the third round seemed to send the Lithuanian to the canvas, but she managed to avoid touching down.  

The Londoner kept her workrate up as she chased Masiokaite around, although Masiokaite kept moving enough to last the distance. 

The last time Julius Indongo boxed in the UK, he was winning a world-title unification fight against Ricky Burns. He had gone 1-4 in his five fights since that 2017 fight, with no fight lasting four rounds. 

At 38, the Namibian went into a fight with former British and Commonwealth welterweight champion Chris Jenkins very much on the down slope if his career. 

Indongo was busy in the opening two rounds as he threw lots of punches to keep Jenkins off him, but the Welshman was walking him down and, in the third round, he made Indongo stand and trade and he looked rocky on his feet at the end of the round. 

He was under pressure for most of the fourth and fifth rounds, but stayed out of serious trouble, although he looked exhausted in his corner. 

However, Indongo got back into things in the sixth, as Jenkins’s output slowed up after suffering a hand injury and the Namibian did well in the seventh round too as Jenkins waited too long for openings. 

But Jenkins regained control in the final round to close out the victory, taking it 78-75 on referee Reece Carter’s card. 

Steve Robinson’s lack of defence cost him as the big heavyweight from the North-East lost his unbeaten record to fellow novice Shane Gill in a six-rounder. 

Gill gave Robinson plenty to think about in the first round when landing an overhand right and following it up with a left-right as Robinson was slow to cover up. But he didn’t learn from that warning, as Robinson looked slow and ponderous, did not really use his jab and looked easy to catch every time Gill (who had lost his only previous fight) came forward swinging 

Referee Chris Jones scored it 58-56 to Gill.
