Trainer Jose “Chepo” Reynoso stresses that a Mexican super-fight between champions Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is tough to make, because of the weight, and any possible agreement would have to be reached very soon because the scales are tipping for Chavez Jr.

He commented: “The only way this fight will happen - is if it takes place very soon - because it’ll soon be impossible for Julio to make that middleweight limit.”

On behalf of Saul, Golden Boy Promotions is insisting on a catch-weight of 156 pounds. While Top Rank, representing Julio, requests a catch-weight of 158 pounds.

Chepo suggests: “Saul can fight in the 154 pound super welterweight division for a long time. There are no weight problems for him. Saul can’t go over 157-pounds, but I think Julio can get down there. So I think this is a very complicated fight to make. This fight is possible, but it would it would involve many conditions.”

The current challenge at hand,  is the fight against Puerto Rico’s Kermit Cintron at The Monumental Plaza de Toros Bullring in the heart of Mexico City, this Saturday night. Chepo sees Kermit as a dangerous opponent for WBC super welterweight king Canelo. He said:

“Kermit Cintron is a prudent fighter with great experience. He’s also a top line fighter who can hit hard and he’s a complete boxer, so we’ve got to be attentive of him. He knows what it’s like to be a champion and what it takes to be a champion. He’s also dangerous because he knows that this is his last chance.”

Kermit Cintron has been stopped twice by Antonio Margarito, but he’s drawn with Sergio Martinez and defeated Alfredo “Perro” Angulo.

Chepo explains that this an excellent test for Saul at this stage of his career and he said:

“We’ve got to careful with Kermit, but I’m fully confident in Saul’s ability.”
