WBC middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs) has one opponent on his mind - British star Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs).

Canelo is training hard for his scheduled defense against Khan on May 7th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

While that fight is gaining steam, Canelo is still being swarmed with questions regarding a fall showdown with WBA/IBO/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs).

Golovkin is the mandatory challenger to Canelo's world title. Should Canelo win his fight, and Golovkin defeat Dominic Wade on April 23, the two boxers will have to fight in the fall - according to an order from the World Boxing Council.

Some are wondering how a fight with Amir Khan, who is a fast welterweight moving up to a catch-weight of 155-pounds, will help Canelo prepare for a fight with the much bigger and strong Golovkin.

In selecting Khan, Canelo had no thoughts whatsoever as to what affect - positive or negative - the contest would have on preparing for Golovkin.

"Look, I'm not focusing on whether or not a fight with Khan will benefit me with going against Golovkin. There are many fighters out there. During these moments, I have no reason at all to think about Golovkin. I've already fought the best at 25-years-old and I don't need to be searching for opponents like others do. Right now I choose my opponents, I will keep winning fights , and I will be ready for whoever comes," Canelo said.

As to the fight taking place, Canelo says it will happen in the future but he won't verbally commit that it happens in the fall.

"Without a doubt it will happen. There is a lot of talk about this fight and at some point it is going to happen. But fights like these need time to be negotiated. These big fights are not made overnight, but this fight needs to happen," Canelo said.
