The world middleweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mexico's Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs), is in San Diego training hard for his upcoming title defense against Amir Khan ( 31-3, 19 KOs) on May 7th at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The fight takes place at a catch-weight of 155-pounds. Khan, who competes at the moment at welterweight, is moving up by eight-pounds.

Canelo is running in the morning and in the afternoon he goes to the gym for his strong work, including sparring sessions among other things.

If Canelo wins, he will have to make a mandatory title defense against Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs), who also holds the IBO/WBA/IBF middleweight championships.

Golovkin defends his belts against IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade on April 23rd in Los Angeles, California.

If Canelo refuses to face Golovkin in the fall, the WBC will strip him and make Golovkin the full champion.

Canelo will not commit, at least right now, to fighting Golovkin the fall.

"Look, right now I'm focused on May 7th. Everything else is speculation," Canelo said.

A lot of critics are going after Canelo, because of his refusal to fight Golovkin at the middleweight limit of 160-pounds. He says the critics will always go after him. Even if he fights Golovkin, and beats him, Canelo believes the critics will continue to target him.

"They will always be picky. That's why it interests me less. I want to train one hundred percent and keep winning fights," Canelo said.

"I have nothing to tell [the critics]. I'm always going to be criticized. I have nothing to tell them. Even if I beat Golovkin, they will look for more excuses to continue criticizing me. That's why right now I just do my work."
