Junior middleweight prospect Brian Ceballo defeated Luis Veron by unanimous decision Thursday night at Sony Hall in Ceballo’s hometown of New York City. 

Scores were 80-72, 80-72, and 79-73 for Ceballo, who improved to 14-1, 7 knockouts.

Ceballo dictated and dominated much of the fight from the opening bell. Veron was game for much of the fight, but was not able to fend off Ceballo with his offense, which diminished with each passing round. 

The impact of Ceballo’s punches began taking their toll on Veron during the second half of the fight. Veron looked worse for wear, particularly in the sixth and seventh rounds, as he looked tired and was in defensive mode. Ceballo trapped Veron against the ropes towards the end of round 7, throwing a barrage of punches, but was not able to drop Veron, who was able to make it out of the round.

The 29-year-old was returning to action after losing his previous fight by majority decision to Nicklaus Flaz on October 26. Ceballo is promoted by Tom Loeffler.

Veron, who resides in Buenos Aires, Argentina, drops to 20-7-2, 9 KOs. The 30-year-old has lost four of his last five bouts, with two of those defeats coming to welterweight contender Alexis Rocha on July 16 and to junior welterweight contender Shohjahon Ergashev on May 26. 

In the co-feature, lightweight prospect Tsendbaatar Erdenebat of Mongolia defeated Edt Valencia by unanimous decision. 

Scores were 78-74, 78-74, and 80-72 for Erdenebat, who improved to 6-0, 3 KOs. 

Erdenebat was more-methodical against Valencia than he was in his previous fight on February 23, when he stopped Giovanni Gutierrez in the third round. Erdenebat boxed effectively, although Valencia was able to connect in the pocket with his array of punches. 

The 26-year-old made news over the last couple of days as he admitted being one of Ryan Garcia’s sparring partners in his preparation for Gervonta Davis this past Saturday and that he allegedly hurt Garcia to the body with a punch. Garcia stated there was a mole in camp who provided information to Davis, including being hurt to the body. Erdenebat addressed the issue on his social media accounts Sunday that he was not the mole and rooted for Garcia to defeat Davis.

Valencia, who resides in Culiacan, Mexico, falls to 20-10-6 1 No Contest, 7 KOs. The 32-year-old has lost four of his last five bouts. 

Two-time WBO world junior bantamweight titleholder Miyo Yoshida defeated Indeya Smith by majority decision. 

One judge scored the bout 76-76, while the other two judges scored the bout 77-75 and 78-74 for Yoshida, who improved to 16-3. 

Yoshida is originally from Kagoshima, Japan and now resides in New York City.

Both Yoshida and Erdenebat are promoted by Lou DiBella. 

In a grudge match between lightweights who reside in the New York City area, lightweight Sydney Maccow defeated Christian Otero (5-4, 2 KOs) by unanimous decision. Scores were 58-56, 58-56, and 59-55 for Maccow. The 30-year-old improves to 9-8 1 No Contest, 3 KOs.

Larry Fryers snapped a six-bout winless streak, winning by knockout at 1 second of the sixth round over Joshua Rivera (8-3, 3 KOs) of La Mesa, California. Fryers improves to 12-6-1, 5 KOs. 

In the opening bout of the DiBella Entertainment/ BoxingInsider card, 19-year-old David Lopez of Las Vegas improved to 3-0, 2 KOs, defeating Nelson Morales (3-6) of Scranton, Pennsylvania by unanimous decision.
