Undefeated Toowoomba boxer and current WBC World Youth Silver Featherweight champion “The Great White” Brayd Smith will take on Argentina’s Jose Saez when he next fights on the undercard of “Smithy Brings the Big Fights 6” at Rumours International in Toowoomba on March 14.
Smith, who is currently 8 wins from 8 fights as a pro (7 by KO), is coming off an impressive first round KO via a body shot in his most recent bout in Melbourne in December last year. His next fight however, will see him take another step up in class of opponent against Jose Saez, one the Toowoomba Law student says he is very excited about.
Saez is much more experienced, with a professional record of 22 wins (12KO) 16 losses and 6 draws, is no stranger to Toowoomba or to international fights, with his last two bouts an action packed defeat against Filipino star and adopted Toowoomba boy, Jack “The Assassin” Asis and a close points decision loss in Canada against Tyson Cave for the NABA title.
He has also been in the ring with current WBA featherweight champion Jesus Cuellar as well as went the distance with IBF champion Steve Molitor.
Saez has fought in Canada three times, France, England twice, Finland and of course Australia, meaning he has had nearly as many international fights and nearly fought in more countries then Brayd has had fights, Jose has fought for 6 titles and has won the WBC Latino title, However it is this impressive resume, which Brayd Smith says excites him.
“I can’t wait to step in to the ring against Jose Saez on March 14,” said Smith. “I had the privilege while I was out injured of watch Jose Saez vs Jack Asis from ringside so I know that he is very tough and dangerous, but I feel I’m ready and I can’t wait to test myself against a fighter that has been in big fights all over the world.”
Brayd’s trainer and father Brendon Smith said there is no doubt Saez will be looking to use that experience to upset the much younger local.
“Jose is a tough experienced fighter and this is a dangerous step up for Brayd,” said Brendon Smith.
“We have seen the in ring tricks from Jose first hand when he fought Jack and there is no doubt he will be out to use his experience to upset Brayd.”
“However Brayd is always 100% dedicated and I am confident he is up to the task”.
This fight will take place on the undercard of “Smithy Brings the Big Fights 6”
