Jez Smith got up from a first-round knockdown to have an absolute war with unbeaten Bradley Rea on the undercard in Newcastle in a middleweight eight-rounder.
Rea looked in for an early night when he dropped Smith with a body shot in the first, but Smith battled back and almost pulled off the win in a scintillating battle that went one way and then the other.
In the end, it swung on a brilliant finish effort in the last from Rea, who collected a 77-75 points win from referee Ron Kearney to move to 11-0.
Unbeaten heavyweight Steve Robinson needed only 98 seconds to knock out Reece Barlow in what was supposed to be a six-rounder.
It was wild while it lasted with both swinging freely, but Robinson finished it when he followed up a sweeping left with a crunching right that dropped Barlow to the floor, where he showed no likelihood of getting up before referee Ron Kearney’s count was abandoned.
Unbeaten cruiserweight Michael Webster moved to 6-0 as he beat Gennadi Stsernin, of Estonia, who was pulled out after the second round.
Kirstie Bavington built-up an early lead to get a deserved win over April Hunter in their welterweight six-rounder. Bavington took a 59-56 decision to inflict a first defeat on Hunter after four wins.
Georgia O’Connor, who medalled at world championships at youth level as an amateur, made a successful professional debut, beating Ester Koneca, of the Czech Republic, 60-55 on referee Steve Gray’s card.
