Jason Booth must beat Kiko Martinez in his own backyard if he is to claim the vacant European super-bantamweight crown next month.

Booth will be aiming for his first win outside Great Britain in Madrid on 11 April following three failed European title challenges on the road.

The Nottingham boxer (36-6 15KOs) claimed a split-decision over Jamie Arthur last month to secure a showdown with the 25-year-old Spaniard (24-3 17KOs).

The 33-year-old gave away five inches in height and the first three rounds to Arthur, but still managed to add the Commonwealth title to his British crown.

Booth's manager Jimmy Gill confirmed promoter Frank Maloney missed out to Spanish counterparts when purse bids were staged in Rome.

"It's a blow, we would have preferred to have home advantage," Gill told the Nottingham Evening Post.

"Frank was not best pleased. But that's boxing."
