StubHub Center, Carson, California - Viktor Postol (28-0, 12KOs) upset the odds on Saturday night, when he scored a tenth round knockout over Lucas Matthysse (37-4, 34KOs) to capture the vacant WBC junior welterweight world title. The championship became vacant after Danny Garcia moved up to the welterweight division a few months ago.

Postol was outboxing Matthysse for most of the contest and started breaking him down by the eight round. Matthysse went down in the tenth from a counter that he never saw coming and decided to stay down for the full count of ten.

Postol's promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, expects big things in the future for the talented Ukrainian.

"Viktor Postol will be a real force in the 140 and 147 pound divisions. He had a terrific fight tonight. He will be hard to beat. Top Rank will have some very big fights for him," Arum said.

Postol's win destroyed a potential fight that was in the works for 2016, with Matthysse recently being named as a frontrunner to face Manny Pacquiao.
