O’Shaquie Foster voiced displeasure with his performance against Abraham Nova, having made the second defense of his WBC super featherweight title via a split-decision over the 30-year-old Abraham Nova. 

The lead voice in Foster’s corner, Bobby Benton, outlined one of the key factors that contributed to the close fight.

“We had a tough weight cut,” Benton explained. “It was the first time we had that happen.”

This also was the first-time in a world title fight Foster was treated as an ‘A-side’ fighter. That meant more obligations. Two fights ago, he defeated Rey Vargas for the belt, and Foster’s name appeared second on the poster. His last fight, against Eduardo ‘Rocky’ Hernandez, Foster was the champion, but they fought in Hernandez’s homeland of Mexico.

This fight was the first-time as a champion that a promoter, Top Rank, got behind Foster.

“When we got to New York, we had a lot to do,” Benton said. “I think that was part of it, too. We had a lot going on. Usually we don’t, we are just there making weight. That could’ve been part of it, too.”

After the fight, Foster welcomed a fight with WBA super featherweight world champion Lamont Roach Jr. or the winner of Oscar Valdez-Liam Wilson, which takes place at the end of March. 

Benton believes that Foster will continue to fight at super featherweight weight.

“I think he has a couple more fights here,” Benton added. “Definitely he will be moving up, but we will see what happens. We will probably hire a nutritionist, and go from there.” 

Foster is now 22-2, 12 KOs. Foster is riding a 12-fight win streak, and the streak also goes along with when he started training with Benton. This was Foster’s first fight with Top Rank Inc.
