Losing to Alycia Baumgardner was thought to be impossible. Does Baumgardner hit hard? Without question. Is she one of the best female fighters in the world? No doubt. Still, Mikaela Mayer wasn’t convinced that she was on her level. She still isn’t.

Mayer, immediately after coming short in 2022, demanded a rematch. Baumgardner though, wasn’t interested. She took Mayer’s IBF and WBO titles, adding them to her WBC belt, and went on to become an undisputed champion one year later.

Baumgardner told Mayer (19-1, 5 KOs) that if she wanted a sequel, she would have to be patient. Now, after clearing out the 130-pound division, the 29-year-old is officially ready to make part two happen.

“Yeah of course,” Baumgardner told Tha Boxing Voice when asked about an eventual rematch with Baumgardner. “That fight needs to happen again. We can always run that back.”

Although Baumgardner (15-1, 7 KOs) now wants it, a rematch only makes sense if Mayer takes care of business in a few weeks. On January 20th, she’ll travel halfway across the world to face IBF welterweight champ, Natasha Jonas.

Baumgardner isn’t a fan of Mayer. Actually, she can’t stand her. Still, once January 20th comes rolling around, she’ll become her biggest fan.

Earlier in her career, Baumgardner was all about facing the top names and proving that she's the top dog. She still has that attitude but after all of these years, she’s learned about the messy/business side of boxing. It isn't always pretty and can be confusing. Yet, the Detroit native is all about what flows in and out of her bank account. All in all, she knows that no one, maybe outside of Claressa Shields, can give her the type of payday she really wants.

“This is about business and making some money at the end of the day.”
