EBU featherweight champ Marc Vidal, 11-1-5, retained the title on controversial technical draw against former world champ Kiko Martinez, 38-8-2, in Elche, Spain, on Saturday night.
Vidal was badly cut in the first round but there was no ruling (at least not made public) on what had caused the cut.
The fight went on with Martinez having the upper hand in a wild second round where Vidal survived a long timeout. Between the second and third round the fight was stopped and declared a technical draw.
IN OTHER NEWS: Welterweight Gerome Quigley will look to stay perfect when he takes on tough Raymond Serrano in a 10-round battle for the USBA and WBC United States titles on Saturday, June 16th at The Gardens Ice House in Laurel, Maryland.
The show is promoted by Jeter Promotions and GQ Promotions.
Quigley of Montgomery Village, Maryland has an unblemished mark of 18-0 with 16 knockouts, and is one of most underrated contenders in the world. He states that he will be ready for his toughest bout to date.
"I don't know much about him other then he is tough and durable. This will be a good test for me, and I am stepping to the next level with this fight. Serrano is battled tested, so that should bring out the best in me," said Quigley.
Despite having nearly a 90% knockout ratio, Quigley feels that he is more a of a boxer then a fight that is just looking for the knockout.
