Centre Gervais Auto, Shawinigan, Quebec, Canada - Dangerous puncher Arslanbek Makhmudov (16-0, 15 KOs) came out firing and destroyed Michael Wallisch (23-6, 16 KOs) in one round to retain the NABA and NABF heavyweight titles.
Makhmudov came like a man on a mission from the opening bell and it didn't take long before he dropped Wallisch with heavy punches. Wallisch would go down a second time as the barrage continued. Wallisch barely did anything and may not have thrown a single punch in return. He was simply holding his hands up while being battered.
Makhmudov got a little wild and would lose a point for hitting to the back of the head. Wallisch continued to get punished and would go down for a third time at the bell. He beat the count, but then he refused to come out for the second round, which ended the fight.
The local fans were stunned, with super welterweight contender Femke Hermans (14-4, 5 KOs) pulling off a major upset with a ten round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Mary Spencer (7-1, 5 KOs) to capture the IBO world title.
The 38-year-old, who despite her age was viewed as a future star, was unable to overcome the quicker hands and activity of Hermans. The scores were 99-91, 97-93 and 96-94.
Middleweight contender Steven Butler (32-3-1, 26 KOs) retained the NABF title, but he had all he could handle in winning a ten round unanimous decision over and Joshua Conley (17-5-1, 11 KOs). The scores were 96-94, 97-93, and 99-91.
Featherweight Thomas Chabot (8-0, 7 KOs) was nearly derailed by Carrillo Baranda (4-3-1, 0 KOs). He started well with a knockdown in the first round, but Baranda was very competitive and came back in the fifth to score two knockdowns of his own. Chabot was able to survive until the final bell to pull out a very close six round unanimous decision. The scores were 57-54, 56-55, and 56-55.
Middleweight prospect Alexandre Gaumont (6-0, 3 KOs) scored three knockdowns, as he crushed Pablo Polanco Fernandez (9-12, 3 KOs) in three rounds.
In a battle of lightweights, Luis Santana (8-0, 2 KOs) stayed undefeated with a six round unanimous decision over Jonathan Uribe Hernandez (4-1-2, 1 KO). The scores were 60-54, 60-54 and 60-54.
