Swedish southpaw Anthony Yigit, 29-4-1 (10 KOs), has announced his retirement at the age of 32.
The fringe lightweight and junior-welterweight contender had won two fights since losing a 12-round decision to Denys Berinchyk, the same boxer who defeated him in the 2012 Olympics, in August 2023.
Those comeback victories, both via six-round verdicts over David Rajuili and Jamshid Nazari, were, however, low-key affairs.
The other losses on his record – to Keyshawn Davis, Rolando Romero and, for the IBF junior-welterweight title, Ivan Baranchyk – all came in his biggest fights.
Yigit is a former European junior welterweight champion. He can boast points wins over Sandor Martin, Lenny Daws, Joe Hughes and Armando Robles.
His announcement came via social media in the form of a screen shot of a message.
“I think I’m gonna retire the boxing career now,” it reads, “and pursue the other stuff I’ve built up in my life! You don’t have to chase fights for me no more.
“I thank you for giving me a fair shot in pushing me for a world title shot one last time. I can honestly say I gave what I could, and that I can retire, knowing it’s not something I wanna do anymore.”
