Former champion Anthony Mundine has confirmed a recent story on krikya360.com, that he will be Rigoberto "Espanol" Alvarez in Newcastle for the interim-WBA junior middleweight title. According to Mundine, the date of the fight has been pushed back from September 7 to September 21.
The winner of the match will become the mandatory to the WBA's "regular" champion Austin Trout, which Mundine hopes is going to lead him to a potential fight with the WBA's super champion Miguel Cotto.
"Time to announce that I'm fighting tough Mexican Alvarez. I want to fight Cotto but I got to work my way there. Trout next, then I hope Cotto," Mundine said. "Time to show who is best 154-pounder in world."
