Anthony Fowler could be in line for a title shot towards the back end of the year.

The super-welterweight advanced to 8-0 with seven early on Saturday night with a stoppage win over Gabor Gorbics.

Fowler, 28, took out the Hungarian inside the fifth round at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle.

The fight was scheduled to go eight rounds, but Gorbics – who has previously been in with former British super-welterweight champion Liam Williams and Asinia Byfield – failed to withstand the incessant pressure for the duration and was dropped before the referee Steve Gray had seen enough and called a halt to proceedings in the early part of the undercard to Lewis Ritson’s vacant European lightweight title showdown against Francesco Patera.

And afterwards, his promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that he is planning on boxing him again before the end of the year, with Commonwealth champion Michael Zerafa at the front of the queue for a date in December in his home city of Liverpool.

Fowler, on the other hand, is keen to settle a score with former Team GB team mate Scott Fitzgerald, who, like ‘The Machine’ is undefeated in the paid code.

Meanwhile, North Shields’ Lawrence Osueke claimed a points win over experienced campaigner

Hosea Burton returned to action with a 29-second stoppage victory over Saidou Sall.

The Joe Gallagher-trained former British light-heavyweight champion hadn’t boxed since February and dispatched of the former Joshua Buatsi foe with a body shot.

Terry Wilkinson was dominant in every round as he cruised to victory over the incredibly durable Chris Adaway.

And Chad Ellis kicked off proceedings with a points victory over Angel Emilov to extend his unblemished ledger to 5-0.
