Exhibition Centre, Liverpool - For the vacant World Boxing Organisation Inter-Continental middleweight title, Olympian Anthony Fowler (10-1, 8 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over world title challenger Brian Rose (31-6-1, 8 KOs).
The scores were 98-92, 98-92 and 97-93.
Fowler was coming off his first career defeat, a decision loss to Scott Fitzgerald back in March.
In the first half of the contest, Fowler was landing the heavier blows and was busier. Rose was throwing a lot of jabs and landing a good shot here and there. Rose was competitive, but he didn't have the power to get Fowler's respect and he was mostly being tactical, hanging and looking for an occasional punch to land.
Fowler was getting a bit more active at the start of the seventh round. Things heated up in the ninth after Fowler suffered a cut and Rose pressed him with punches. In the tenth and final round, Rose was rocked by a solid shot to the chin and then worked over by hard punches as Fowler jumped on him. Rose was able to hang on as Fowler was unable to finish him.
