World title challenger Andrzej Fonfara (30-5, 18 KOs) has unexpectedly announced his retirement from boxing at the age of 31.

Having said that, Fonfara is not going to fight Edwin Rodriguez in a scheduled bout on March 9th. The contest was part of a FOX televised event with Shawn Porter defending his WBC welterweight title against Yordenis Ugas in the headline bout.

Fonfara has been inactive since June of last year, when he stepped up to cruiserweight and knocked out Ismayl Sillakh in six rounds.

According to Fonfara, he simply lost the desire to continue fighting.

"There is no more enthusiasm, and above all [no more] motivation and adrenaline, which gave the desire to go out into the ring and compete," said Fonfara in a statement to his fans.

"I am healthy, everything is OK, but I no longer have the heart for boxing. I'm always 100 percent or nothing. I can not do otherwise. Thank you."

Fonfara has been professionally active since 2006. Twice without success, he secured shots at the light heavyweight world championship - the first time he lost to Adonis Stevenson on points, and then in their rematch was easily knocked out.

During his career, the Pole has gained valuable victories. He handed Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. his first career defeat by knockout. And he also picked up wins over former world champions Glen Johnson, Chad Dawson, Nathan Cleverly - and Doudou Ngumbu, who next month fights for a world title.
