Danish tabloid Ekstrabladet writes that Kalle Sauerland, promotor of former WBA and WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (44-2, 33KOs), has flown to the United States to negotiate a return fight between the the Danish superstar and WBC/WBA champion André Ward (25-0, 13KOs), who won the recent Super Six tournament and owns a 2009 technical decision win over Kessler.
"I have meetings scheduled with both Showtime and HBO, who both have told me that they are interested in this fight," Sauerland was quoted by the paper.
Sauerland's biggest challenge will be to lure Ward to Denmark, but a sum of $3-4 million dollars might do it. Kessler is scheduled to face WBO champion Robert Stieglitz in April, but there have been rumors of Kessler going after Ward and stablemate Arthur Abraham going after Stieglitz.
Kessler has not been available for comments, but his manager Allan Back says the information regarding a Ward rematch is news to him, but also addded:
"Mikkel would be happy like a child at Christmas. But it has to be in Denmark or in neutral territory. We have been to Oakland [Ward's hometown] so the return can not be there."
Back concludes: "this would be the ultimate for Kessler. Getting a return with Ward."
