Home Depot Center, Carson, California - In the first semi-final bout of the Super Six tournament, WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13KOs) dominated
Arthur Abraham (32-3, 26KOs) over twelve rounds. The scores were 120-108, 118-110 and 118-111. Abraham is eliminated from the tournament and loses three of his last four fights.
In a switch from his usual style, Abraham came out moving forward and jabbing. Ward was cautious, staying away and using his own jab Abraham began to let his hands go more often in the second round, but he wasn't able to land many of those punches. The third was an Abraham round as he landed good jabs and sneaky right hands.
Ward started with a new fire in the fourth, jabbing to the head and body and following up with big shots. The fight changed at this point with Abraham being unable to get anything going, while Ward was landing combinations in every round.
Abraham took such a one-sided beating in the tenth round that it could have been scored 10-8. Ward dominated the final two rounds to end the fight.
Ward will now head to the final bout of the Super Six, and faces the winner of Carl Froch vs. Glen Johnson, which takes place on June 4 in Atlantic City.
