Middleweight Amilcar Vidal Jr. continues to rebound from his lone setback.

Vidal knocked out Victor Pinango with one punch Saturday night at the Club Atletico Stockolmo in Vidal’s hometown of Montevideo, Uruguay.

The 27-year-old Vidal improved to 18-1, 14 knockouts.

From the opening bell, Vidal was the aggressor, throwing and landing combinations behind a steady jab. Pinango was game, staying in the pocket to exchange, but Vidal was connecting with the more effective punches.

About a minute into the first round, Vidal threw and landed a left hook to the body, dropping Pinango to the canvas. Pinango struggled to get to his feet as the impact of the punch prevented him from doing so. Referee Matias Morales counted Pinango out at 1:13.

Vidal suffered his first defeat as a pro at the hands of contender Elijah Garcia on March 4, losing by knockout in the fourth of a competitive fight between unbeaten middleweights.

In his last bout, Vidal returned to the winning column on July 22, stopping Dominic Rondon at the end of the seventh round. Vidal is promoted by Sampson Lewkowicz and has fought on a handful of occasions on Showtime programming.

Pinango, who resides in Caracas, Venezuela, falls to 12-3, 10 KOs. In his previous fight on August 27 of last year, Pinango lost to Eliecer Gutierrez by unanimous decision.

In the co-feature, lightweight Claudio Daneff stopped Luis Torres Valenzuela in the third round.

Daneff, who resides in Canuelas, Argentina, improved to 19-3, 9 KOs. 

After an even opening round between the two southpaws, Daneff began walking Torres down, letting his hands go and connecting more with conviction in the second round. Torres spent the first minute of round three initiating exchanges, but past the midway point of the round, a left cross to the head dropped Torres to the canvas. 

Torres beat the count, but was staggered again by another punch. Daneff followed up, landing a barrage of punches until Torres dropped face first to the canvas. Torres again beat the count, but was dropped again from a barrage of punches, forcing the fight to be stopped at 2:44.

Torres, who resides in Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, falls to 18-1, 10 KOs.

Flyweight Thalia Pineiro defeated Laura Gomez (4-1) of Buenos Aires, Argentina by unanimous decision. Pineiro, who also resides in Montevideo, improved to 5-0.
