Alfredo Santiago, who upset world-ranked junior welterweight Angel Fierro on Saturday night, is not shy about who he wants to fight next. Following his victory, Santiago has set his sights on the best in the division, citing past experiences as preparation for future challenges.

Santiago won a 10-round decision over Fierro (22-2-2, 17 KOs), 25, with scores of 99-91, 98-92, and 98-92. 

Heading into Saturday's fight, Santiago (15-2, 6 KOs), 29, was a sizable underdog. Reflecting on his career, Santiago spoke of his loss to Devin Haney five years ago as the moment his career trajectory changed. 

“I think I learned from great experiences, and that was, that's what I did, I've also learned not to take fights on such short notice,” said Santiago. “You talk about the Devin Haney fight. I had two weeks to prepare for that fight, and I did what we did on that occasion.”

Santiago. who lives in Puerto Rico, also had remarks for Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn, who promotes Fierro.

“He was there in the corner with Fierro, and he was really trying to get behind Fierro,” Santiago said. “So I just said, I'm here too, and I wanted to show as well what I could do.”

Looking ahead, Santiago has a simple goal: He wants to fight, ideally on a major platform with wide distribution. While his recent win may not guarantee a title shot, it certainly makes Santiago an enticing option for upcoming prospects or fringe contenders seeking a credible opponent with two solid victories.

“Listen, whoever he [Hearn] wants, whoever he [Hearn] wants to bring in,” Santiago said. “I'll face anyone. I'll fight anyone.”
