Heavyweight journeyman Jason Gavern has fought a who's who in the heavyweight division and also worked often as a sparring partner.
Gavern is very interested in a the potential heavyweight fight between WBC champion Deontay Wilder (34-0, 33KOs) and mandatory contender Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21KOs).
Last August, Gavern was stopped in four rounds by Wilder. Gavern has also in the past traveled over to Russia help Povetkin in training camp. Gavern's last fight, this past April, saw him get knocked out by rising heavyweight force Anthony Joshua of the UK.
The World Boxing Council is expected to order Wilder and Povetkin to being negotiations in October. Wilder is looking to fight again in late September and Povetkin is looking to sit out until he gets his title shot.
Gavern was very impressed with Povetkin's last outing, which saw him blow away Mike Perez in one round. He was less impressed with Wilder's ninth round stoppage of Eric Molina.
"I think Povetkin is a terrific fighter and so is Wilder. I would be interested in watching them fight. I think Alexander would create a lot of problems for him. After watching the last fights of Povetkin and Wilder, I think Povetkin beats him," Gavern said.
